eczema on hand

Eczema makes your skin dry, red, itchy and sometimes, even discolored. The reason it happens is that the skin has certain cells that react when they come in contact with anything that irritates them. If you have eczema, you have more of these cells than other people do.  The skin actually thinks it’s “doing the right thing” by fighting the external irritations. The good thing is that it is not contagious and can helped with proper diet and care.

Eczema can effect people in various ways, and in various extremes, from mild to very irritated. It can be made worse with stress, cold, dry weather, allergies, etc.

Cleaner eating not only goes a long way in basic health and nutrition, but really helps the skin, as well. Cutting down on dairy helps. Drinking water, about half your weight, in ounces, daily, really really helps. Eating foods high in omega 3’s and healthy fats, really helps, too. Nuts & seeds are a wonderful protein and healthy fat source.

For topical skin relief, botanical oils are wonderful. Creams that contain Arnica or Emu oil are natural anti inflammatories, too and can really help calm the redness. Make sure the products do not contain alcohol, which can burn and itch and make it worse. Very gently polishing the dead skin cells away, too, and then massaging water and the botanical oils into skin can also give great relief and help the new skin to stay moisturized and nourished.
