Suffering from breakouts is not fun!

So you make it out of your teens, twenties and thirties and you are finally headed toward clear skin…

Or so you thought. And then your skin goes and breaks out big time! All over your chin or your forehead. What the heck happened? Well, it’s hormones and more. Acne occurs when the hair follicles and ducts are gummed up with sebum oil and dead skin flakes, then hit with a dose of bacteria. Voila, acne and pimples. And it still happens long after your teen years.

Adult Acne is really a thing?

Women are more likely than men to get adult acne. Usually it is one in four women in their 40’s about one in seven in their 50’s and beyond.

Countless drugs, cleansers and lotions are available, but simple changes can make a big difference.

Regular, gentle exfoliation with an oil based scrub will help keep dead skin away and keep natural oils balanced. This prevents the skin from over-producing more oil. If you keep dirty hands away from your face, this should eliminate most basic acne attacks.

Try eliminating dairy products. They contain proteins, growth factors and hormones that can stimulate acne.

Start a low-glycemic diet. Stop eating refined carbs and sugars. They stimulate the production of insulin which can increase inflammation and the production of sebum.

Cystic acne is another joy of the adult acne party.

These pebble-like bumps under the skin are called epidermal inclusion cysts. They happen when more than one oil duct or hair follicle becomes clogged with dead skin, extra oil, and congestion in the pores. This is not an infection, but it can become inflamed and hurt like nobody’s business because the body rejects it like a foreign object.

Here are a few tips to take the pain away:

Warm compress: Do this a few times a day. Make sure the water is not too hot and let it sit on the cysts for a few minutes each time.

Steroid Injection: You can also get an injection of hydrocortisone which is an anti-inflammatory medication that can reduce the swelling. Topical steroids are not strong enough. Ouch. Seriously!!

Bye Bye Bagz Cream: – YES!! Our under eye cream has anti-inflammatory properties that helps calm skin in general, so it is fabulous for a pimple cream. It take the hurt away and helps the pimple head faster. Plus, because it is non-drying, it won’t create dead skin flakes which can get stuck in other pores and create new pimples.

Age should bring wisdom only, but on occasion it also brings acne and irritated skin. Fortunately you can help prevent these breakouts and help calm them down when they occur. 🙂
